SUPERGRID

The first pilot will be hosted in the test laboratories of the SuperGrid InstituteThis pilot will be based on a bidirectional DC/DC converter (1.5kV/10kV 250kW) which SUPERGRID will have developed under FOR2ENSICS EU project. The converter proposed for the demonstrator is based on the DAB topology shown in the figure. The low voltage stage is based on the 500A 3.3 kV SiC MOSFET in LinPak package supplied by HITACHI. The high voltage side is based on the series connection solution of 3.3kV SiC MOSFET (6 devices per switch) with the die supplied by HITACHI and packaged in a single die package optimised for series connection. The converter is operated at 10kHz. This converter is being developed for a MVDC energy distribution application. For the demonstrator within the project, it is proposed to integrate CH&M board and power modules developed within the project inside this converter to demonstrate successful operation in the application environment, this will allow achievement of TRL6. Three different demonstrations are planned. First demonstration of the CHM card functionality applied to the LV side of the converter on standard SiC modules. Second, integration of the Type 2 module on the LV side of the converter and demonstration of the advanced CHM functionality. Finally, integration of the type 1 module on the MV side.

CH&M Functionality Test at Laboratory Level:
Additionally, SUPERGRID will include a test facility based on AC power cycling bench. The test bench is based on a H bridge topology with the following parameters: 150A, 600V, 1kHz. It is currently used to test 1.2kV devices but it will upgrade the voltage of the test bench to suit the FLAGCHIP devices up to 3.3kV and the frequency to 10 kHz to be consistent with SiC MOSFETs. In the scope of the pilot demonstrator SUPERGRID will use this facility for pre-validation of the CHM solution with conventional and Type 2 module by integrating them with one of the DUT devices. Operation of the CHM card and CH&M sensing will be demonstrated as the devices age. Such demonstrator would validate CH&M PCB to TRL 5 under more controlled environment prior to integration into DC/DC converter. This test bench will be also used to age devices to different level for pilot demonstrator.
