FLAGCHIP joins forces with ODYSSEV to advance next-generation Power Electronics
FLAGCHIP is pleased to announce a new synergy with the Horizon Europe project ODYSSEV – Optimised DYnamics of high voltage powertrains: developing Sustainable Systems for Electric Vehicles, opening new opportunities for knowledge exchange and collaboration around advanced power electronics technologies.
While addressing different application areas, FLAGCHIP and ODYSSEV share a common ambition: to advance power electronics towards more efficient, reliable and cost-effective solutions, supporting Europe’s transition towards sustainable energy and mobility systems.
At the heart of both projects lies the development of advanced power conversion technologies and the use of Wide Bandgap (WBG) semiconductors, particularly Silicon Carbide (SiC). FLAGCHIP is developing advanced WBG and UWBG semiconductor devices and power modules, together with innovative packaging, integrated sensing, thermal management and Condition & Health Monitoring solutions for renewable energy generation and DC-grid applications. ODYSSEV, meanwhile, is developing the next generation of high-voltage electric powertrains at 1200 V and above, including advanced automotive power converters and a hybrid inverter combining silicon and SiC technologies.
The projects also converge on the need to improve system efficiency, thermal performance, integration and cost-effectiveness. FLAGCHIP addresses these challenges from device and power-module level through to converter operation and predictive maintenance, while ODYSSEV takes a holistic powertrain approach, optimising the inverter, battery, motor, on-board charger, packaging and overall control of the electric vehicle.
This complementary expertise provides fertile ground for exchanging knowledge and lessons learned on SiC-based power electronics, converter technologies, packaging and thermal behaviour, system integration, testing and validation, while exploring how advances in power electronics can benefit different strategic sectors – from renewable energy and future electricity grids to electric mobility.
Through this new synergy, FLAGCHIP and ODYSSEV will seek opportunities for knowledge exchange, joint communication and dissemination activities, and cross-project visibility, strengthening the impact of European research and innovation in next-generation power electronics.
Together, the two projects contribute to a common European objective: enabling more efficient, reliable and sustainable electrified systems through advanced power electronics technologies.
